Hon. TAIWO OYEKAN Provides Free Health Insurance Scheme For Lagos Island Residents
- Beneficiaries Commend Local Government Chairman
In its renewed effort to make healthcare accessible to residents, the Lagos Island local government, in collaboration with Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has enrolled five hundred (500) residents for Health Insurance Scheme at a 2-Day comprehensive medical outreach on Lagos Island. The health coverage will span through 365 days.
The healthcare intervention initiative featured health talk, screening and clinical tests for different diseases and dispensing of medications.
In his address, the executive chairman of Lagos Island local government, Hon. Taiwo Oyekan stated that the healthcare intervention is one of the action plans of his administration strategically designed to provide healthcare services to underserved residents; focusing on improving access, and empowering communities through health education.
“The health insurance scheme will restore dignity and foster long-term community health and well-being”, Hon. Oyekan said.
The Medical Officer of Health, Lagos Island local government, Dr. Moshood Bello said the medical outreach leverages on universal health coverage which is a target of the sustainable Development Goals initiative.
“It will provide opportunities for residents, particularly the vulnerable to access qualitative healthcare services at no cost”, He said.
Dr. Bello urged the beneficiaries to do regular checkups and use the prescribed medications at the appropriate time.
According to him, the beneficiaries can access healthcare services at ten(10) different designated primary health centres and general hospitals in the council area.
An octogenarian beneficiary, Mrs. Alice Ige expressed gratitude to Hon. Oyekan for the medical service support.She described the local government chairman as a compassionate person.
The chairman of Persons Living With Disabilities(PLWDs) Association, Lagos Island Chapter, Mr. Adeniyi Gbadamosi eulogized Hon. Oyekan”s purposeful leadership.
He said:”Over the years, Hon. Taiwo Oyekan has organised numerous life-transforming programmes for Lagos Island residents. He is friendly and kind-hearted. We are very grateful for his continued support for our members and other residents.
